The History Of Caribbean Heritage

Mighty Good Food was launched as a micro catering business in 1996.  Our niche was and continues to be authentic high-quality Caribbean food. We began in Buffalo, NY when our small family moved there due to a job promotion Jerome received in 1995.  With three young children and no family support in Buffalo, we made the decision for Lorna to become a stay at home Mother. We started the business partly out of financial necessity, and for Lorna to get much needed mental stimulation.  Due to our strong family and community ties in Rochester, we catered to both markets. We were not surprised that most of the business was generated in Rochester, although the jobs were sporadic and on a small scale. Late in 1997, we moved back to Rochester.

After returning to Rochester, Lorna returned to work. Catering took a back seat to her full time employment.  We did continue with the business doing “special things for special people” – weddings, graduations, private parties, and several outdoor festivals.  The operating scale has been very small, primarily due to Lorna’s employment. Notwithstanding, we have generated a cadre of very loyal customers who incessantly ask when we would be opening a restaurant.  Some of our repeat customers over the years include:

Our Family

We have been looking for the right opportunity to enter the mid to upscale restaurant business.  In the interim, Lorna earned an associate degree in Hospitality Management from Monroe Community College and is certified as a food service manager.  Jerome holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from St. John Fisher and a master’s in finance from Rochester Institute of Technology. We are well prepared from the technical and business aspects of operating a restaurant.  The time is now, and we are launching Caribbean Heritage Restaurant as a manifestation of this long-held desire to open a full-service restaurant.
